K'in is a component of an ancient calendar, specifically the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, used by the Mayan cultures. It represents the smallest measure within the calendar, parallel to a single day; dictated by the sun and the movement from light to darkness and darkness to light.
K'in Psychotherapy is formed around this notion of the passing of each day, the sun will set and it will rise once again. We exist alongside this continual movement and our awareness is formed and experienced through it. To be conscious of this movement and our developing awareness brings with it understanding, and through this understanding we may be able to unhitch deep-seated pain that weighs us down.
K'in also envelops the presence of hope, in the security that the sun will always rise, to find sanctuary from the darkness and give light to uncover what we have been previously unable to see.
Psychodynamic counselling is a practice that can allow space for these reflections to take place. In utilising a consistent and reliable space, explorations can be undertaken to explore our experiences and sense of self.
My Approach
Bringing the Unconscious to Light: Just like an archaeologist unearths ancient artifacts, I guide my clients in excavating their unconscious thoughts and memories. Together, we explore the hidden layers of the psyche, unravelling the threads that connect past traumas to present struggles.
Understanding Early Life: Our childhood experiences lay the foundation for adulthood. Through gentle exploration, we delve into early memories, family dynamics, and attachment patterns. Understanding these roots allows us to heal and grow.
Unmasking Defence Mechanisms: We all develop defence mechanisms to protect ourselves from emotional pain. Whether it’s denial, projection, or repression, I help clients to recognize these ways of coping and what influence they may be having in their lives.
Exploring Relationships: Our interactions with others mirror our internal world. By examining relationship dynamics—both within and outside therapy—we gain insights into recurring patterns and opportunities for change.
